“term” and “in terms of”:
「専門用語，用語，言葉」と「を使って」

termは，「ある分野の用語，専門用語，術語」ととることが多いです．単に「言葉」ということもあります．technical
termは，はっきりと「専門用語」です．terminologyは，「ある分野の用語の集まったもの」という集合的なものです．
ちなみに，「術語」の術は，学術の術で，「技芸，技術，学問」のことです．
いくつかの例を挙げます．legal termは「法律用語」です．chemical terminologyは「化学用語（集）」です．terminology of
(in) computer scienceは，「コンピュータサイエンス用語」です．
次に，”in terms of
〜”について見てみます．これは，あまり専門用語という感じを出さないで，「〜という言葉を使って，〜という項目を使って，〜を使って」と訳します．もちろん，「〜」に専門的なものが書かれることもあります．また，このinは，”in
English”のinと同じです．
”in terms of 〜”は，by 〜, with 〜, by 〜 using 〜, by the use of
〜と置き換えて構わない場合が多いです．時には，context「文脈」によって，「〜という点で，〜という点から，〜という観点から」と訳してもよい場合があります．但し，「〜という観点から」を逆に英訳する場合，”from
the viewpoint of 〜”とすると，”in terms of 〜”から少し隔たってしまいます．
例をいくつか挙げます．
“This book will discuss the design process of applications in terms of a number
of steps that may comprise the
process.”は，「アプリケーションの 設計 プロセスを，それを構成する多くの(一連の)ステップを使って議論する」です．
“A variety of applications has been implemented in terms of basic software
components.”は，「多様なアプリケーションが，基本的なソフトウェア部品を使って実装されている」です．
“The application could be evaluated in terms of how it might work
well.”は，「そのアプリケーションは,いかに首尾良く稼働するかという点で(観点で)，評価することが可能」です．
“The quality of the application could be assessed in terms of rigorous criteria
such as compatibility, portability,
reusability.”は，「そのアプリケーションの品質は，互換性，移植性，再利用性などの厳格な基準を使って，査定することが可能」です．
