as follows のつくり（非人称構文）

　as follows, as regards …　などは節であり，as をとると，文です．この文は非人称構文です．

　『安藤貞雄：英語史入門ー現代英文法のルーツを探るー，開拓社，2002年』によると，「非人称構文は，自然界・社会・個人の心理に生起するもろもろの現象を，あたかも自然現象であるかのように表現するものである。 この構文では，行為者(agent)が考えられないので，当然，無主語，または虚辞のitが生じる。」とあります．

　非人称構文は，古英語にあったもので，現代英語では，as follows, as regards …, methinks が残っています．

　この3つを使って，文を書いてみます．

　As regards software development, it can be divided into three activities as follows: requirements specification, design and implementation.  Software development is an engineering process, and yet methinks it has an aspect of project management process.

　regard, follow, thinkは，非人称・単数で，s が付いています．

　as regards では，「ソフトウェア開発を見ると」が，「ソフトウェア開発に関して」になります．

　as follows では，「続いているように」が，「次のような，次の通りの」になります．ちなみに，コロン “:"は，直前の事柄を，詳しく述べたり，言い換えたり，例えで表したりするときに使われます．

　methinks は，Iの与格（…に） me が，thinkに結合して，“it seems to me that〜”という意味をもちます.

 　as follows の別の例として，

    Transaction-based simulation model is constructed as follows:
　    (1) a transaction enters the queue in order to seize the facility.
　    (2) When the facility is available, the transaction departs from the queue, and seizes the facility.
　    (3)After the elapsed time has passed, the transaction releases the facility.

　methinks の例として，John Wilbye （1574〜1638）が作曲したマドリガル “I ｌive, and yet methinks I do not breathe”があります．
